Husband and wife, John Patrick McVeigh (known as Paddy) and Ann Cummins met while studying dentistry in Manchester.
Paddy is originally from Northern Ireland, and qualified in dentistry at Manchester in 1990. He joined the Royal Navy and was commissioned Surgeon Lieutenant (D). This brought him to the West Country, where he made use of the extensive postgraduate opportunities available to him through the Navy. Paddy has a wealth of experience and training in advanced reconstruction and dental implants. Paddy became a member of the Faculty of General Dental Practice Royal College of Surgeons of England MFGDP(UK) RCS Eng by examination and also became one of the first dentists in the country to pass the exam to become a member of the Joint Dental Faculties Royal College of Surgeons England MJDF RCS Eng. Paddy also became one of only 6 dentists in the country to pass the inaugral Diploma in Implant Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh D.Imp.Dent RCSEd- the gold standard in Implant training. He is also a Fellow of the International Congress of Implantology FICOI and a member or the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry AACD.
In 2012 Paddy achieved the Fellowship diploma (FFGDP (UK)) of the Faculty of General Dental Practice, Royal College of Surgeons England. The Fellowship is the highest qualification that the Faculty can award.
“The Fellowship is an award made to a member of the Faculty, through examination and peer review in recognition of their excellence in primary dental care. In essence it is a quality ‘kitemark’ for the dentist. The Fellowship is a significant marker of their ongoing commitment to professional development and reflective practice.”
The Faculty of General Dental Practice is the academic home for general dental practitioners in the UK. It is part of The Royal College of Surgeons of England. The FGDP (UK) aims to promote excellence in the standards of patient care in general dental practice by encouraging involvement in postgraduate training and assessment, education and research.
In his spare time he enjoys being with his wife and two children, fly fishing, walking on the Moors and travel.
Ann qualified from Manchester in 1992. She set up Abbey Mead Dental Practice from scratch, when the building was just a shell – it is now one of the most sophisticated and high tech practices in the West Country. The practice was one of the first in the UK to achieve the British Dental Association’s Good Practice accreditation in 2002.
Ann has a reputation for treating nervous patients and children, and enjoys cosmetic dentistry. She has extensive experience and training in all these areas. When not in the practice she enjoys spending time with her family, playing netball, travel, cooking and cuisine.
After the helicopter crash smashed most of my teeth, I thought I was going to have to wear dentures for the rest of my life. Thanks to your skill and dedication you have rebuilt my mouth and my smile. I was amazed at how painless the whole operation was. Since treatment the crowns have been absolutely superb. It’s just like having my old teeth back again, I have regained my confidence when smiling. I would like to thank you for a wonderful job, I have been recommending you to all my friends.
I’m just writing to say how delighted I am with my implant, and to thank you for your professional expertise and for the special consideration you showed me. I would have no hesitation in recommending the procedure to anyone considering an implant. I would also like to thank each of your staff, who throughout my treatment, offered advice and encouragement.
Thank you for the superb job you did on my teeth. For someone who has been afraid of dentists most of her life, you made me feel really at ease.
I am delighted with my crowns. They look fantastic. The whole process was so pain free and so professionally done.
I have found the treatment to be excellent. Being very scared and nervous of dentists I am amazed and very pleased that I managed to go through all the procedures, and can only put this down to the help and support I had. I am extremely happy with the finished product and will be recommending this practice to my friends.
I would like to thank you very much for all the excellent work done on my teeth and for your sensitive handling of such a nervous patient.
I am taking this opportunity to thank you for the expert and caring implant treatment I have had this year. You will be pleased to know that the implants – very soon after work was completed – felt very comfortable and just like my own teeth.
Thanks for the detailed and helpful information this made me feel very confident and prepared. The subsequent treatment, despite sounding quite complicated, was really trouble free and with minimum discomfort. Most of all the new teeth have really made a difference to my normal everyday life. I do feel that having this treatment is like having my own teeth back and I can’t remember the times when I had missing teeth and a very self conscious smile.
I certainly would not hesitate to recommend your implant treatment to anyone who is facing the future either with missing teeth, dentures or bridge work. Having experienced all those forms of treatment I must say I am delighted with my implants and am very grateful that you offered this very impressive treatment to me.
Thank you again for your exemplary work and expertise.
